Default 2000 2500 4x4 body swap

I have a 2000 12 valve Cummins 2500 4x4 long bed single cab manual 5 speed Laramie. The body has multiple rust large rust holes, mainly in the cab. Too many IMO to weld patch panels in to repair it. The wiring was also altered by my wife’s uncle, and he is now deceased so I don’t even know what all has been altered. The dash has also cracked at some point and is now almost nonexistent.

I would prefer to swap the motor and tranny into a rolling chassis if I could find one, but I’m not sure which, if any, other models would be a direct swap. Is there a guide or some reference for me to find this info or anyone who can help directly? I have some mechanical knowledge, but not enough to rebuild or reconfigure it myself. What would be my best option as far as making this truck as whole as possible without it nickel and diming me to death? I don’t need it to be like new, just want to get it as close to factory as I can.

Any second gen single cab long bed. If you go with another type of body (extended short bed) will need a custom driveshaft unless that truck was a Cummins

I would think it would need to be 98.5 to 2002, a lot of the electronics changed on the older stuff. (that, and I think they were 12 valve.....)

Mounts are still the same. He could use his electronics. So I take back it would have to be 96 and up. I think the cab floors were different before 96 but I'm unsure. I'm assuming he wants to use his drivetrain. He'll just have to use his dash (replace the top as most need it) and electronics. If the PO of my truck got a 96 dash and working to work anything is possible

98 was the last year for the 12 valve so you have a 24 valve unless it's been swapped.
