Default 1995 1500 5.9 v8 oil pressure drop

3 days ago while I was driving I noticed my oil pressure was dropping to zero every time I accelerated and returned to normal soon as I let off the gas. I thought this was weird because oil pressure light did not come on, I got home ,checked my oil and was about a quort low, and the valve covers were leaking. Also the oil smelled burnt.the next day I did an oil and filter change to see if that would correct the drop in pressure. It did not. The only thing I've noticed since is a drop in power. No weird sounds or movements , it's just losing its power. any ideas on why this is happening or how to fix this problem?

Need to find out what oil pressure is actually doing. Put a mechanical gauge on it, and retest. See what ya get.

Ok I got the mech gage it basically said same thing as my gage give or take a couple pounds, so I dropped oil pan and pump. When the pump came out the oil behind it smelled almost rancid. Is their anything I can spray up into it to clean it out? Cus rags is just not cutting it but I'm afraid to use engine degreaser or brake parts cleaner inside the engine, even tho it says leaves no residue. Also I got plenum on the way and transmission filter kit to do as well while I'm under it.

Brake cleaner will work fine. Since you have the pump out, replace it. Look at the pickup, if the screen is clogging, replace that as well. Go with a high volume pump.

Sorry i don't know what I was thinking leaving out that I did get a new pump and Pickup tube. Which brings another question. The pickup tube is a little loose not vary but a concerning amount but not loose enuph to go around again. I seen teflon tape has been used but that also seems like asking for another clog. Seems to me with 5 qourts in it the whole thing would be submerged anyway would it be ok to leave as is or thread lock it maybe?

I would try and spin it one more time. If it sits on the bottom of the pan, it will eventually get plugged up from all the crap that accumulates there. Not right away, but, eventually, it's gonna happen.
