So I swapped out the filter and replaced 7 quarts of oil. Took it for a drive and it seems to be running better now. There was minimal metal on the magnet but the oil looked dirty. Maybe this will take a couple oil changes to finally get it running right. Shifts better, starts better, actually creeps when I put it in gear... That's everything I really needed fixed.

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys run in your transmissions? I think it's rated for ATF+4 or the Mopar factory stuff but some friends suggested running Dexron VI.
ONLY ATF+4. I have ran everything from Walmart brand to some expensive brand. Only use ATF+4 unless you wander to rebuild your transmission.

So I never got a chance to get a pressure gauge to measure the pressures and then this happened last night. I was driving home and decided to back into my driveway instead of driving in and when I put the truck in reverse it barely limped backwards at 2000rpm. Drove it forwards and also it seemed to not want to go forwards then either. Babied it down the street to a parking lot and then this happened.

Once again it almost felt like it was starting in a higher gear than supposed to be and I had to rev high to hit it. It was 11:30 so I parked it on the side of the road. Came back to it today and it seemed to be a little sluggish still but I made it to work, leave it in drive and it seemed boggy but put in first and away she goes.

I still don't think this is a rebuild situation because I don't get any grinding or scraping it just doesn't activate. This is a couple clips of what I was dealing with last night

First clip was a little short..... really didn't see anything there.... (not that there wasn't anything to see.... I just couldn't catch it.)

Unplug the 8 pin electrical connector at the trans, go for a drive. You will have ZERO automatic function, so, you will have to start in first gear, and shift up/down as appropriate. You also won't have O/D, or TCC. Yes, it will set some codes. See how the trans behaves. It should go into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to. If you still have issues, it's likely rebuild time. Only other thing I can think of is the bands being adjust to tight.... but, that wouldn't be intermittent, that would be a problem 100% of the time.

Right on, I'll try that again. That told me the sensor/solenoid were bad in the first place so what can it hurt. Just drove it again that time and I stopped at a stop sign, gave it gas to go, it started rolling forwards (I was pointing uphill slightly), and then it downshifted and then I was driving normally. It's weird.

Figure I might order another filter and gasket and drop the pan again and see what's going on.

And sorry about the slow video. It was late and I was just trying to document it for my friend. It just kept reving higher and higher and then all of a sudden like I threw it into gear and it started rolling.

That could be a pressure problem, which is the governor pressure sensor. Do the test and report back

Ok so I unplugged this connector and unlike last time... The trans temp and OF off lights didn't come on?

Ok so it's still acting a little weird without the connector plugged in. Not entirely sure what to think of it right now.

First video is shifting 1-2-3 and 3-2-1 twice . At one point I said downshift instead of upshift but you know what I mean. Still not any change between 1-2 and 2-1 from what I feel.

Second video is shortly after I made the first I jumped out to check trans fluid and seemed fine. But then it was needing a high rev to get it to roll.

Have you looked down into the plug on the transmission to make sure some crap didn't fall down in there and stopping the connector from making good connection? I had a chunk of sand fall down in mine when I pulled my valve body. Just pulling the plug wouldn't seem as easy to get something in there, but I suppose it could happen.

If it is acting weird with it unplugged, as HeyYou said, time for a rebuild
