The switch for the headlights and running light quit and left me with only running lights. Replaces the switch twice and with both I had to find the sweet spot so that everything came on. Could I have bought two new switches that were bad or should I try replacing the wiring harness??? It’s a 96 dodge 2500

 

Had the exact same thing happen to me, turns out the wiring behind the gauge cluster melted.

 

If this is the case with me. Where would I find the remaining harness if mine is melted

 

Mine was a junction connector behind the cluster where all the park lights (bk/yl wires) come together

 

There was a recall for this in the 3500's but it should have included the 2500's also. If you didn't look at the connector that goes on the back of the switch check it out. The terminals on the switch heat up and melt the connector. So just replacing the switch doesn't always fix the problem.

Gona pull dash back apart and see if changing the female end changes anything

 

Before you pull the dash apart start with the basics. There are two separate power feeds to the headlight switch, one for the running lights and one for the headlights. The headlight circuit is fused in the PDC and the running lights in the inside panel. Pull up the wiring diagram and check that there is power on both. If so, jumper the headlight terminals to see if it's inside the switch or somewhere else.

Sorry I didn't phrase that clearly. ​​​​​ I'm assuming you have a test light or voltmeter at hand, do you have power at B1 in the headlight switch connector ? If yes put a short jumper wire between B1 and H in the connector that should turn on the headlights by themselves. If so then the switches are bad.
