Turn key nothing but one click HELP..
I have 01 Lamarine Ram 1500 5.9 v8 I drove it and in morning went to start it dash lights come on then when I try to start it just one click noise nothing more. I've bought battery , I've check ground wires, check fuse inside and under hood, I've banged on starter and took it in to get tested (passed) I've changed terminals . Auto store clerk told me to switch fuses under hood (black square). I haven't yet . Would you have any ideas what I should do or check need the help . Anybody thank you
So first step would be to swap the relays as previously suggested.
If that didn't fix anything I'd start digging into the wiring of the truck which can be found here. Just pick the service manual for your truck and go wild. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...e-manuals.html
From what I'm looking at there's a couple possibilities that we can start narrowing down. From what I see power comes from the ignition switch when you turn it to start. This then either goes through the clutch pedal switch or just straight jumpered to terminal 86 on the starting relay terminal 86.
So I'd recommend asking your nearest friend with a heavy foot to press the clutch pedal down and turn the key ahead and see if you have power at 86(Test lead on ground cable and one in the 86 socket). If you have it we move to the next step. If not we need to narrow it down to whether your ignition isn't kicking in to start or if your clutch pedal sensor in a manual took the afternoon off.
So 86 is power going into the relay and 85 is ground. In an automatic there's a park/neutral safety switch that the ground runs through, in a manual there isn't and it's grounded all the time. So after making sure the truck is in park test for ground there. (One test lead on your battery + and one on the 85 socket).
If you have power on 86 with the key ahead, and ground on 85 then we know the wiring on the starting relay solenoid is good.
Then look for socket 30 on the same relay and test for power there. This comes straight from the battery and through a fuse so we should test at the fuse also. It's apparently Fuse 9 and a 30A. If we have power at 30 then all is good on the supply side.
if that's all true then test for power on socket 87 when you have the key turned ahead / clutch pedal down / truck in park. If these are all true then the problem is after the relay and check for bad connections between relay and starter.
