I've considered regearing I just don't tow heavy enough often enough to justify the cost.

Towing on a flat in O/D is acceptable. That really isn't a lot of weight. I barely use OD on my other Rams but you have to remember that some of these trucks had a weak trans from the factory but I think you'll be fine. Listen to Get you as he knows more about transmissions than I do. To test the torque converter, you can do the stall test. A common symptom of a failing TC is slow acceleration from a stop but good acceleration on the highway.

I mean, acceleration sucks all around lol. I'll look into the stall test. I have the factory transmission cooler which I am looking to upgrade, if anyone has recommendations I'll take them, I know most are generic.

Factory cooler isn't bad (remove the check valve) especially since you don't the heavy.

When I got the truck, the cooler was laying (still connected) in the valley beneath the condenser in the bumper. I've rednecked it up so it's getting airflow but figured to fix it permanently I'll just get a little bigger cooler while I'm at it.

You can (wouldn't hurt) but just wanted to inform you it's not needed . It should be between the condenser and radiator.

That's probably why I couldn't figure out how it was supposed to mount. Just assumed someone stole the brackets or something.

But it probably is more efficient in the front, ac isn't hooked up anyways.

I did my stall test. First came back 2400ish then 2200ish. Seems a little high from what I've read. If it is high that could mean....?

Stall speed is a pretty generic spec. Different engines will show different stall speeds for the same converter. Are you sure its a stock converter?

No, a non stock converter was actually a suspicion. Supposedly the transmission was rebuilt before I got it, and I bought with 190k, and it seems to operate smoothly overall, so I believe the rebuild story. Also reportedly had oversize tires, so another reason its likely to have needed rebuilt.

I'm not there yet, but if I was to get a different converter what stall should I shoot for? Main use is towing 2-4k.

Id it's not stock that test is useless
