Default 46re direct clutch pack

So over the last week i decided to undertake rebuilding my transmission, i recently got a tuner for it and i am planning a few engine mods so i decided since ive got the time now with No school why not beef up the tranny?

My questions is, can i remove the thick backer plate in the direct clutch pack with an old steel, extra friction, and an extra new steel. I only got to this point because the new steels that came with the kit are thicker and take up too much space for the original backer plate to fit with them in it. I was just going to replace it with 3 of the old steels and call it good. But then i noticed my kit came with an extra friction and an extra steel so why not? With this set up it is just under .038 of an inch clearance between the snap ring.

Is this okay? Should I not? Suggestions?

They are stage 1 reybestos frictions and Kolene coated steels, I am also installing a transgo shiftkit.

I think they make thinner backing plates..... so that you can fit extra clutches/steels in there. Check out transmissioncenter.net.

So do you think itd be okay if i just used 3 of the old steel plates instead? I dont really need the extra friction disk because they are "stage 1" and i am increasing line pressure.
