Default Transmission shifting slow and overheating

2000 24v 4x4 automatic with a Quadzilla tune that I’m still trying to figure out. I recently bought this truck without the fuel pump and I just got it running. After my test drive I noticed that my attempts to heavily accelerate are useless. It’ll rev up all the way up to 3500 RPMs and not shift until I let off the gas. After that it seemingly shifted fine. Checked the fluid, good level, maybe a little full, and is a little foamy. After the second test drive, it began not shifting at all, driving very slowly and I really had to rev it up in order to go about 10mph. Right as I pulled up to my house the transmission temp light came on and I turned off the truck. Checked the fluid (with the truck on again and in park), still has some bubbles in it, and it appears to be way overfilled. Maybe fluid isn’t circulating? Just a wild guess.

The guy I bought it from says it shifted fine before the fuel pump went out. Could this have something to do with the quadzilla? The guy claims shifting can be adjusted with the tune, but I don’t know if he really knows what he’s talking about. He also claims the transmission is fairly new.

Let me know if I can provide any more information to help.

Fluid has to be checked with a warm transmission and the transmission has to be in gear. Usually when the temp light comes on you already fried the transmission

Yeah, check fluid level fully warmed, trans in neutral. (safer than in gear. ) If its over-full, air gets whipped into the fluid, and it won't do its job correctly.
