Unhappy 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L ECM

Getting the P0601 code and looks like I gotta replace the ECM. Looked on several sites for refurbs, some have many options to choose from, some only have one. My question is this: Do the specifics matter when it comes to manufacture date(pre/post 06/00), California emissions vs Federal? I have read bad reviews on so many of these places that do the refurbished ones and how they either don't work or are not for the correct VIN etc. I am driving a 20 year old truck so clearly I do not have the money to be wrong. I had to get the part number from Mopar online chat using my VIN because the sticker on mu ECM was faded beyond legibility. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated; reliable companies with prices that aren't going to kill my wallet would be awesome.

Emissions matter.... In all reality, your best bet is to go to your local parts store, and get one from them. They are more likely to get the right one the first time, and if there is a problem, you can talk to a live human being, face to face. Lot less problems that way.
