Default backfire when accelerating

Ok my problem is tonight driving home my truck wouldn't accelerate above 2000 rpms at any speed with out backfiring through the throtle body, it also felt down on power. Do you think my cat might have went bad? It has been rattling alot at idle lately, I also had a CEL and it was my O2 sensor. the truck is a 97 ext. cab 4x4 360
Any help would be appericated. Thanks!!!

uh yea.... what was the actual CEL code? if you got that itll make it alot easier,, best way to see if the cat is working right nor not is to temp the inlet and outlet portions of the pipe... if the inlet is hotter then the outlet then yea its busted... if the outlet is hotter then the inlet..then your good... maybe your timing is WAY off.. but doubt it unless your timing chain skipped a tooth..witch would suck big-o-nuts. is it exhaust that is coming outa the tb or is it an actual backfire with flames and everything...

I think it was a P0132 but can't really remember. It only does this when the truck is warm and in park it will rev fine

P0132 (M) - 1/1 O2 Sensor Shorted To Voltage -- Oxygen sensor input voltage maintained above normal
operating range.

meaning you crapped an 02 sensor and not workking right,,, or your exhaust is coming up with some CRAZY readings...possibly a bad cat... witch should be treated as a nuclear weapon... can do some major crap to your motor if not fixed... see if anyone else has any ideas!

how many miles on it? the timing chains are junk and should be swapped out. get a double roller chain for about $60 bux. your timing chain may have jumped a tooth... mine did, it was pretty clear when I swapped it out that it jumped a tooth, there was about an inch of slack in it.

yeah, it did... when I tried to line up the timing marks, they would not line up. I had to move the cam to line up the marks on the new timing chain. as best as I could figure... it jumped 1 tooth. there was a lot of slop in it that didnt really show well in the pics I took.

It has 77000 miles and I don't think its the timing chain because it ran perfect today but didnt pull as hard above 3000 rpms. The exhaust is getting replaced tomorrow so we will see if it fixes it.
Thanks for the help
