Gen 2 2500 front hub preload?
Hello all, I got 2 NEW Moog hub assembly (#515034 and 515035) for a 98+ 2500 with 4 wheel abs.
BOTH hubs have excessive play once installed. Upon talking to the Moog tech people they are saying these require Preloading. This don't sound right to me. These hubs are reassembled and sealed, once installed with all 4 bolts on the flange and the axle nut torqued the hub still wobbles..
Any help and info is appreciated, thanks eric

My truck is a 96 2500 8800# axle 4wd
the 98 hubs have the internal ABS, which is what I was looking for. The factory ABS is still causing me problems and was thinking the integrated ABS might cure the issue.
Aside from the ABS, the 96 - 99 hubs are supposed to be the same.
I mounted one. After torqued you can grab the hub at the rim mounting flange and shake the hub more than an 1/8" side to side.
Moog tech support said this requires pre loading.
I did my best to web searching and find no reference to anyone doing it.

This is my 3rd set of hubs, 202k miles, 3rd set of rotors.
I had my local mechanic do the first 2 sets . They we're NOT Moog hubs just premium grade from carquest auto parts.
I was thinking the Moog were a better product.

If the bearing flange bolts are tight and it still wobbles it's the bearings. They are a sealed set and no pre load. Take them back and get timkens! As for the abs you can get abs codes by grounding out one of the pins on the OBD connector.
Take a really close look and take some measurements to make sure the 98 hubs are exactly the same dimensions as the older ones. Most drive unit bearings rely on the axle nut to get them "tight". See here for a few cutaways that show how they are pressed together during assembly and note page 11 that talks about how the axial clearance is reduced when tightening the axle nut: http://www.ntnamericas.com/en/websit...rings_4601.pdf

I had done a lot of measurements and visual comparison of the 98 vs the worn set on my truck last week before trying to install. I have since picked up a 96 hub to put on the bench tomorrow morning and give a thorough examination and measurements. And I'll try this again.
Will keep you guy posted, thanks for info and guidance. Eric
