Default Starter won’t line up right

I took it it out to take the dust cover off and when I put it back in it never sounds right.

ive taken in it out and put it back for the last 8 hours and it just will not line up right.

this is absolutely ridiculous. It only goes in one way , why does it whistle or whine after the truck starts ?

It was completely fine yesterday so I know the starter isn’t bad.

please help

well I had to adjust my bolts on my torque converter and I’m 99% sure my flex plate is warped/ cracked

could that be it ? I got it to start without a loud whining sound at idle but not the starter gear sounds like it’s hitting my flexplate teeth at idle

If your flex plate is cracked that could make that sound. Starter sent engage on the flex plate it does on the torque converter. So it has no way to contact the flex plate.

Explain "adjust" There is no adjusting they go either on or off.

Were some of the bolts loose? Converter to flax plate, or flax plate to crank shaft. Did you use thread locket to keep them from coming loose again? Were any wallowed out?

yes and yes. My truck was making a light knocking noise that came from the back of the engine. Two bolts where backed out so I used locktite and torqued all to spec. I’m not sure what the difference is ? Flexplate to crank I guess ? The ones you can access by removing the dust cover ?

The ones you access by removing the lower cover are the torque converter to flex plate. It's hard to say at a distance, but I suspect you may have something warped or misaligned. What I would do, besides rolling through a crowd of police officers on a Segway and wearing a viking helmet and nothing else, is remove the lower cover and let the engine idle. First off see if the noise goes away. You may just have a bent cover. Otherwise, watch the flexplate for a wobble.

Hmmm....did I mention a Segway?

I've been a bit too normal lately.
