Default 1996 5.9 Ram 1500

Hey folks,
I am not a tranny guy by any means. I have only removed the pan to replace the filter. Here is my issue, i think same as a lot of folks here with the 46RE. Tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd fine but from 2nd to 3rd it will just keep reving until I back off and force a shift to 3rd. after that it goes into 4th just fine. Now, sometimes it does this and sometimes it doesn't. I can almost make it happen depending on how I accelerate on take off.

Any ideas? If it comes down to the EPC or GS. if so, where are these parts and are these easy to get to and replace?

Thanks in advance.

May be electronics, which are easy to replace, (in the pan, above the filter) may be band adjustment. Little more complicated, but still in the pan, and one on the outside of the trans case.

Drop the pan, pull the filter, loosen the lock nut on the front band, tighten the adjuster to 72 inch pounds, then back it off two turns, tighten locknut. Same for the other band, but, the adjustment is on the outside of the trans.
