My 01 whistled like that all the time when cold. Never had anything go wrong, had it for 4 years. Turn up the radio and it goes away.

Does it make the noise when you turn off overdrive?

I really don't think it is a bearing, but I can check. As far as does it do it with the O.D. off, yes it seems to happen around 20 mph or so and then again at 40 (O.D. doesn't kick in until 52mph). It seems as though it is rpm related cause when the tranny shifts it stops and if I gas it or brake it, it stops. I am thinking the radio idea is the best I've heard yet ; )

Mine does the same thing, but it seems that its only when cold outside and the whistle occurs at exactly 1900rpms. Any more info on fixes?

My 04 dodge ram hemi just started doing that last week. The whistle sound is loud and I only notice it when I'm accelerating and my truck is cold. Once I drive it 10 minutes or so it stops. Did you ever figure out what was wrong. I have been searching on this site trying to find some info on it. Thanks!

help!! I have a 2003 1500 ram van with the 5.2 magnum. Bought used with 24k on the odometer. Right from the start, I too have been haunted by the " high pitched whistle"- only occurs in the cold weather , intermittent whistle at any speed , doesn't matter if the motor is up to operating temp or not. Give it a little more or less throttle, the noise goes away. ( using the throttle up or down makes it fade out , like an air whistle being controlled by a 1/4 turn ball valve ) Tried disconnecting all vac lines and plugged, no change. (even tried without vac to booster- scary) Changed throttle body and gasket, tried driving without air cleaner assembly, checked for restricted exhaust, cleaned IAC, tried unlit propane trick around manifold, no oil consumption . Took it to my favorite garage, they did a "smoke" test and found no vac leaks , did a test drive with the scanner hooked up and everything checked out normal. Convinced it was a vac leak, I installed a vac gauge- @100 KM on the highway, I'm only running around 10" or so- Take it out of O.D. and it runs around 18" to 20" and I get about 18 MPG - with the OD on and the lower vac reading I'm getting around 12 to 14 MPG. Out of desperation I took it to the dealership ( now at 58k) They told me the whistle was the PCV and hose whistling- I removed the valve and capped the vac nipple- noise was still there! (no surprise) While the dealership checked it out, they told me the motor had a lot of blow-by and they would replace the motor under warranty. (excess blow-by with no oil consumption ? ) They had my van for a month, installed a "short block" replaced the water pump , serpentine belt and clutch fan. When I finally got the van back, it was starting to warm up, so no whistle. Well, it's cold here now, the whistle and poor mileage are just eating at me. On a side note, with the cruise control on ,or just maintaining a constant speed, there's not enough vac to operate the heater controls more than twice- I'm assuming that would mean the vac reservoir isn't leaking. I'm running out of guess and hope someone out there has an answer for me. I've talked to anyone who'll listen, nobody seems to be able to help .Anyone have an answer?
