ANNOUNCEMENT:cracked dashes and the nhtsa. please sign up.
Hi
Same problem with mine , a 99 quadcab. It loks like a puzzle, and yes, problem started by the passenger side, on top of the air bag...
I has a 91 Silverado, with no problems...I sold it just to payoff this Ram.... so, after years of use a good truck I'm here trying to get together all these plastic pieces...there's no way Dodge admits they made a big mistake, in corporate world nobody is responsible. Who cares the service and customer satisfaction? World has changed and nobody has the g_ sizes to made commintments or even accept they fail.
Well, it's time to continue with this plastic puzzle, some day I'll get a coverlay, Dodge would never get my money again...

I guess I bought a weird canadian model cuz I take no care of my dash and here the temp climbs and drops alot.My truck is a 96 and it sees terrain that no truck should see but my dash is still mint.Guess those canadians got it right.
Ok, upper dash panels are "cosmetic" and therefore hoping for a recall is like hoping our politicans willwake up tomorrow withmorality! If your the original owner and you have "low" mileage ask your selling Dealer for a meeting with the DCX District Manger. ( they have the power, not the people at the 800 #)When you meet with him/her invite them to inspect your vehicle and ask for "goodwill assistance" in the repair expense. How many of you have done this? After all, Dodge did not build the truck with the intent of having the dash fall apart! You never know, you might get some help.
If your not the original owner dont waste your time, pay for the repair!
Automobiles do not come with lifetime warranties and recalls are reserved for "safety" concerns that have been "proven" to cause injury or death.

So I just bought my first Dodge truck ('01 1500) on Tuesday after much consideration for a Nissan Titan or Chevy Silverado. Got home, pulled in the driveway and the dash simply fell right through and colapsed all to ****. Now, I get online and sign up for this forum and come to find it's a quality issue and many have this problem- how nice. $700.00 for a new dash, and 2-3 hours labor means big bucks considering I just bought it "as is". From reading up on what most of you guys are saying, this isn't something that the dealer will take care of as it doesn't seem to be an issue worth addressing to them. Wonder if I'll get any other nice little costly surprises out of my new "Ram Tough" Dodge.
Did I mention I'm kinda pissed off?

Ummm, not that it is any consolation, but you (we) are not alone. Mine is a 2001 Laramie, and one day, recently,in the driveway, parking after work, I hear crick, crick, crick and the whole defroster vent on the drivers side and the speaker kind of slowly sank into the interior and now when you least expect it, pieces fly through the air and the drink holder is making hellacious creaking noises and I think it will be next. Are the tv stations still doing anything ? I live in the upstate of SC and have not heard a thing about this until I went looking for a dash cover and/or way to repair the cracks. I thought about calling News Channel 7 locally if it would do any good. I am a 2nd owner and the truck has been well maintained by us both. I WANTED this truck..I just love to climb out and have people say You drive that truck ?? (to which I must confess I always want to reply h*** no, it just flew itself here). However, the Titan is looking good, having read 2 years of "we dont care" from the Mfg.
does anyone have pics of the cracked dash? I have a 1996 Ram and don't seem to have this problem to be honest I've never heard of it until this post came up. Maybe Iam lucky or maybe it's just a matter of time
Here's my super cherry dash...

Dashboard? What dashboard? My 2000 Dodge 1 Ton doesn't even have a dash left....I'm sure the dealership price will be outrageous from the posts in this forum......Does anyone know where i can find an aftermarket?...I do not want the overlay being i have nothing left to glue it too!!!!.....(I need a new dashboard; this one looks like ****...)
I have a 99 dodge 4x4 and got a 8 inch crack about in the middle of the dash just after I got it and that was in may 06. When I put armorall on I pour it on and use a armorall wipe to clean the dash so its really wet and I live south of big spring Texas where the temp i the summer is almost always in the upper 90's low 100's and so far no more cracks
I asked the dealer for a quote to repair my dash(it is only cracked on the top of the dash) and they said $800. As much as I hate to look at it..just doesn't seem worth that much to repair it. I'm curious to see how these after market pieces are working out.
