Hello to all and I find this site very informative. I've been researching and using the search function but can't get the real answer I'm looking for. I just bought a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L 77,200 miles it has a Magnaflow muffler 2.5 in dual 2.5 out K&N drop in filter. I ordered the K&N FIPK I'm thinking about the Hypertech programmer since its on sale still. My question is does anyone have this set up K&N, Catback and programmer installed and what gains did you see especially MPG.
Thanks Scott
Thanks Scott
hey, welcome to DF!!!!!! the muffler you have on there is the same thing as a magnaflow. the K&N is a great upgrade and will give you a few more pony's to play with. as so with the programmer. I really dont know anything on the hard numbers though. im sure some will chime in with them.
Welcome to the DF! I have a 2001 Dodge Ram reg cab 2wd with the 5.9l. I also have the K&N FIPK and also 2 40 series single in dual out flowmasters. This combination on my truck helps me out a ton on MPG and hp. I am getting about 3 mpg more than what I did previously. As far as the HP goes, I Don't know the exact numbers but just guessing mabye 15-20 hp was gained. -Tyler
Don't expect to compete with hemi's or anything, but you definelty see noticable gains in my opinion. The K&N drop-in is ok, but a K&N FIPK (cold air intake) would be better. A cat-back is always going to free up a few ponies, and the programmer was engineered specifically for a truck like yours that is near stock. It will probably give you the most difference of the mods that you listed. You should also look into getting a Fastman throttle bored out throttle body. www.thefastman.com
the hypertech is a good programmer, but I would look into the superchips tuner as well. It has a towing program as well as an 87 and 92 octane program. Got one in mine and love it.
