Default Stuck in park after OD unit change

Ok so a buddy of mine had his transfer case snap. And while Inspecting it I realized there was a hairline crack in the OD unit. (Just like mine a while back) he got a new set and I helped him change it out. Got it done in a few hours easy peasy... or so I thought...

the shift lever is stuck in Park. I’m assuming it’s because the parking rod didn’t go into the hole in the OD unit like it should have....

can I drop the pan and fix the rod from inside the valve body instead of taking everything off again? I’ve read on a few threads that it can be done but nothing definitive.

46RE transmission I would rather drop the pan and do the solenoid upgrade for him and kill two birds with one stone if possible...

Ok so update time!

i read in another thread as well as saw in a YouTube video when installing the parking rod via valve body reinstall that sometimes you need to turn the driveline in order to “pop” it into place.

so I went to the back of my truck and rocked it forward as hard as I could (moved it maybe 3-4inches back and forth)

I then tried it again and voila! The shifter moved smooooth like butter.

I hope this helps someone in the future. It’s funny it only took me 4 hours to pull and replace the OD and transfer case units but an entire 24hrs to figure this out lol.
