Default Identifying transmission

On my 98 ram 1500 I have a leak at front of my transmission and I want to put a rebuilt transmission in. A guy at the feed store has a parts truck and it came with a tranny in the back. Was thinking about trying to rebuild myself, but don’t know how to make sure it’s a 46 re. The truck it self is missing pan but one that came in back of box is complete. Any tips very appreciated!!

All 1500s with the V8s got a 46 96 and above is 46RE and 96 and down (96 was a transition year) was 46RH. Depending on the year of the parts truck you may have to use the wire harness inside your transmission.
