Yep, my bad... I coulda sworn my old light duty 96 2500 was 6 lug, but I looked it up tonight and I was wrong. Haven't had that truck in 20 years so guess my memory is failing. I know my 96 2500HD was 8 lug

There’s no such thing as a “light duty” 2500. At least not to my knowledge. The 2500’s were all considered “heavy duty” while the 1500’s were “light”

No. Up until 99 Dodge made a 2500 light duty and heavy duty. All the light duty was a 1500 with 8 lug.

There absolutely was a light duty 2500.
In fact, there have been many iterations of the 2500:
LD with Dana 44/9.25 and 5.2
HD with Dana 60s for 5.9
HD with Dana 60/70 auto CTD and V10
HD with Dana 60/80 5spd and 6spd CTD and V10

Actually there is a "heavy duty" classification for the exhaust, It had duel cats and duel exhaust pipes(according the the service manual). I have an 8800 but it doesn't have duel cats.

Has to be over 8500lbs to be considered a 3/4 ton truck.

They're odd because the light duty was considered a 2500 (which would be a 3/4 ton). Got to love the 90s
