new to df but am loving it so far.

my problem is when i really get on the gas it sounds like the lifters are knocking. as soon as i let off gas it quits.
if i take off normally it does not make any noise at all runs awsome. what should i do? or what causes this?
any help would be great, i am a first time owner of a dodge just got it 3 weeks ago.

first off check your oil

other than that see a trusted mechanic.

 

As the engine only makes the noise under load (on the gas) I would almost bet its spark knock that your hearing. Try running a tank of premium fuel through it if the knocking quits there is your problem. I'm guessing you have either a 5.2 or 5.9. If this is the case they are known for intake gasket leaks.With the engine off, open the throttle all the way and look down the the throttle bores to the bottom of the intake. If there are pools of oil the gasket is out and will need to be replaced[X(]

 

Does it sound like they are knocking or rattling, rattling would be lifter's, spark knock. Caused by anything from bad gas to out of time. Knocking I would say is not the lifters but something far more serious.

 

yea i would say it is more off a rattle, i just was able to put in a tank of premium gas is it tonight, and fut in some fuel cleaner.we will see what happens thanks for the info

since i ran the tank of premium the noise has stoped, what causes the spark knock?

do i need to run prem all the time now?

 

i ahve a good rattle noise when under load. but i can also hear it when int he drive through at the coffee shop. ive run prem and a cleaner. still there.

 

you dont have to always run prem. what you gotta do is take off the tb and give it a hell of a cleaning... very important to start diagnosing a spark knock problem... take off the 3 sensors too and give them a hella scrub too..

 

i have a 2005 3.7 litre dakota and it has ticking noise frim the driver's side. sounds like lifter noise but cannot determine which exacly where? any suggestions?
