Default Shock Mount Broken

The drivers side rear shock mount broke on my 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. I don't put a lot of weight in the truck, my kids think it's a dump truck. Shop welded the shock bracket. I'm calling it a shock bracket. It's part of a steel plate that seems to be bolted onto the frame. There is also something that looks like a big rivet that is welded onto the frame. The mechanic mentioned there is some type of protective part that cushions the top of the shock absorber from hitting against the steel frame. I tried searching on
line, I'm not coming up with anything. Does anyone know of anything that I'm trying to describe.
You guys have been great with advice. I want to thank all of you again for all the help.

There should be two bushings on top of each of the front shocks that your mechanic may be referring to. This cushions the top of the shock in the upper front shock mount.

There is a jounce bumper that sits between the axle and the frame, its purpose is to limit upwards travel and to keep the shock from bottoming out. If the shock limits the up travel it will indeed break the shock or shock mount.

Thank you DerTruck and Atomic Dog. I am going to take a look tomorrow at the jounce bumper to make sure they are there. Would you know the name of the steel plate that the shock attaches to. The plate bolts onto the frame. There is also what looks like a big rivet that is welded in a couple of spots. Just wondering what to call it to make the online or ebay search easier. If I ask at the junkyard for the part it makes it easier if you know the name of the part. The mechanic welded the the broken steel. I'm guessing it will hold.
Thank you again for your help.

In looking at the 94-96 Dodge truck parts manual, the part is called "BRACKET, Upper Shock Cup" shown in illustration 2-145 as part #5. There should be three studs that it sits on top of with three nuts holding it in place. You should be able to download this manual from the 2nd gen Dodge Ram site. This front bracket was used on all 4WD Dodge Ram trucks (1500, 2500, 3500) from 94-01, so there should be plenty of them in salvage yards.

The OP is talking about the *rear* shock mount.

Oops. Thanks for pointing that out. I believe the driver's side rear upper shock is mounted to a frame cross member. The passenger side rear shock bolts to a separate upper mount that's bolted to the frame, at least on my truck.

Thank you DerTruck. I kind of thought AtomicDog was talking about the front shock mount. I wasn't sure. Thank you for confirming that.
