Default Bad engine and transmission

Hello all, I want to get my parts pickup up and running so ill give a little back story. Its a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.2 magnum automatic 4x4. About two years ago the transmission went bad and shortly after the engine locked up. My question is can you pull the Transmission with the torque converter bolts still in? I can't rotate anything to get them out. Also can a person yank them out one by one as a one man show?

You can separate the trans from the engine without pulling the t/c bolts, but, the t/c will stay on the motor. Gonna have to pull the trans back quite a ways to get it to clear. Not entirely sure you have enough room..... Might have to take the t-case off first. Of course, if you are doing it by yourself, I think pulling the t-case off first really wouldn't be a bad idea.

You can do it by yourself, but, it's a LOTTA work. If you have a warm, dry, place to work, and the appropriate tools, and aren't in a rush..... It is eminently doable.

thanks for the reply, i am in no rush. I am pretty sure the engine and transmission are both bad but I do not have a cherry picker or friends to help so its going to have to be peice by peice project over the winter

That'll work. Pull the tans/t-case first.... I think it will make your life easier.

Does anyone know roughly how much the transfer case and transmission weigh separately? I just need to know if its possible to take them out and in with just a floor jack? And some old fashioned muscle and cussing

Why not drop the pan on the motor and see what's stopping it from turning?

They aren't light, around 200-300 for the pair. A floor jack will work. Transmission jack even better. I remember a couple of times swapping a clutch with bricks. Build them up, swap it then build it down. It took forever, but I got it done.

I swapped the transfer case on our 95 without a jack. I think you'll be able to handle the transmission once the transfer case is off of it. Take the pan off and drain the fluid, to get rid of a little weight.
