727 question
Hey guys so I find overdrive very useless on my 2nd gen(2001) dodge transmission(46re). Is the 360 V8 would a 727 bolt up to it? I never really use overdrive because I dont drive on the highway really. When it comes time to replace it I wanted to know if it'd be relatively easy/trouble free.
I have a 1st gen cummins with the A518 and thats my highway vehicle(better fuel mileage) is 2wd and is my 3 season vehicle while the 2nd gen(4×4) is my winter vehicle so really don't need overdrive for it anyways. I've read that 727 is one of the longest lasting automatic transmissions for Mopar. I dont think this transmission is gonna make it 200k is the original 46re at 180k. The engine only has less than 90k miles and is stock so it has something good to matchup to.

I think the 727 is going to be shorter than the 46, so, you will need to change your driveshaft lengths as well.
I don't do much freeway either, (like, almost none at all...) but, I still find O/D useful.......

727 came in two versions "A" and "B" A is for all small blocks. No lock up on 727's Putting it in a 2001 you will need to reprogram the pcm for a stick so won't get codes. I would stick with a RE.
Why do you say that? I got 225K with an the original 46re.
