Dodge ram 99 cummins diesel.

Any suggestions on this issue. When starting, steering is stiff a little to turn and a little jerky. doesn't feel as it typically does on turning. Also accompanied with an audible whoosh as i gas on.

No idea if its a steering fluid issue or brake issue as pads are about due. Or an issue i cant think of.

thanks for any info or tips to help me figure this one out.

Fluid shouldn't cause that. Air in the system could. Check the brakes by jacking it up and spinning the wheels to check for pad rub. Should be an even mild scraping sound all the way around. Also check around the PS pump for leaks (I know, on a Cummins, no less). Could also be bad tie rods or ball joints causing drag when turning. Lots of places to start checking!
