Welcome to DF!

I suspect what you are hearing is spark knock. So, question becomes, how old are your O2 sensors? What gas are you running? Weight of your trailer??

Moving this to 2nd gen ram tech section for ya.

It's pinging. Very bad. Keep OD off when towing, run at least 89 too. These engines don't have knock sensors. Welcome to Dodge.

Spark knock is causes by hot spots in the combustion chamber that ignites the fuel prior to getting a spark from the plug. You either have to run higher octane fuel or possible colder plugs.
