Transfer Case Identification
I have a 1995 Dodge Cummins 2500 and currently finishing up a rebuild of the transmission. It is an automatic with the 47RH installed. I am not the original owner so do not know the full maintenance history but the current trans had been rebuild at some previous point. In checking out the transfer case I noticed the back plate has it listed at a NP231D. To the best of my knowledge the '95 2500's used the NP241DHD. Will this be an issue and should I find a new transfer case?
Hhhmmm.... that seems like a pretty lightweight t-case for a 2500. Given you have the diesel, I seriously doubt it is the light duty 2500..... So, yeah, should be at least the NP241D, if not the DHD...... (DHD has a slightly wider chain.)
If you are going to tow/haul with it, I would be considering finding the correct t-case.

This happened to me. I bought a Cummins and the PO tried to install a NV3500 from a 1500 with the 1500 transfer case
