A/C Compressor Problems

Default A/C Compressor Problems

I have a 98 ram 1500 with the 5.2L 318 and there is a problem with the air conditioning. The A/C wasn't working when I bought the truck, so i figured it needed R-134a and while I was right, it was low now the compressor constantly turns on and off at like 3-5 second intervals. What's wrong with it? And what should I do?

Still not enough refrigerant...

Need to put gauges on it. Most of the cans with a gauge on 'em, will have a chart on the can as well, that tells you what your low pressure should be (compressor running) given the current temp.

If it wasn't working when you got it it probably has a leak. And with it being empty then you have an idea how much refrigerant to put in. You may want to add die to locate any possible future leaks.
