So are the 46 and 47re valve bodies the same? It seems like everyone that rebuilds them lists them under the same part number, even sonnax. I called a few places and really didnt get a straight forward answer. I have a 47re behind a v10 gas and wanted to get an updated valve body. I was having some 1-2 shift delay issues so decided to drop the pan and now want to upgrade whatever I can since I plan on using the truck to tow. Found the front band was loose, and poked around the valve body a bit and found the 3-4 spring busted. Ordered billet servos, billet accumulator, heavy duty strut and anchor, new electronics with the DCF1 billet governor pressure solenoid and a few other things. Again I am just wondering while dodge has different part numbers for the 46 and 47re valve bodies, everyone seems to sell the rebuilt ones under the same part number. Any info will help. Really not a lot of differences in the transmissions. THe 47, and 48 have more heavy duty internal parts, but, rumor has it, they will all fit in the 46RE case...... so the only "real" difference between them is the bolt pattern for what motor is will go behind....

 

So I should be able to stick a 46re valve body in a 47re without issue. Again, everyone that rebuilds them lists the same part number for both, but dodge has them listed as 2 different numbers.

 

There are variations in the valve bodies, apparently. Don't know exactly what those are, aside from governor pressure mounting differences.....

Can't find a 47RE valve body??

 

Its not so much that I cant find a 47re valve body. Its just that everywhere I called for a 47re HD valve body has the 46 and 47re as the same part. Ive asked the difference and have been told there is no difference. There is only a different between the gas and diesel. I looked in the service manuals and exploded views of both the top and bottom halves as well as the check ball locations and there just doesn't seem to be a difference between them. The 48re is different for sure. I have a few options I can go. I found a NOS 46re valve body that I can get for a great price. I would update it with a sonnax zip kit and it would still be less than buying one elsewhere. Or I can just grab one from central valve bodies, which has really good quality I might add, and toss it in. I may just go with central valve bodies at this point. I used them for my 408 46re and it shifts great.

 

The NOS and the zip kit sounds like a winner to me.
