I think that should be one of Murphy's laws.... "Any job you think will take five minutes, will take three hours."

Nothing like a good quality long barrel air hammer and a good sized air compressor. Makes life easier than a BFH and less wear and tear on the body, too..

I HIGHLY recommend some REALLY good hearing protection for that exercise.

That's certainly an optimal thing to have

I really appreciate all the replys here fellas, good stuff ! I might start digging in today. Way too many times I expected something to only take "X" amount of time and spent days or weeks battling, I know better now. I have no real time expectation here. If I finish by the end of the week I will be happy. Back in 17' when I did the axle seals, hubs, axle ujoints and several other things, I think I was at it for close to a month ! But getting the pumpkin out was probably at least a week of that job. Dont think I would have gotten through that one if it hadnt been for all the help I got on here. Thank again boys !
One question : Besides the ball joints (all 4) and the axle ujoints that I know are already shot again, is there anything else that I should be replacing while in there ? My hubs are only 4 years old so they should be good, and no way am I gonna try to pull the pumpkin out again to redo the axle seals, they dont appear to be leaking anyway.
@Moparite I dont have the oxy acetylene setup anymore (used my gramps when I was a kid!) I do have one of those mapp gas setups though. Dont know if that will put oout enough heat. Also arent the ball joints mounted on the arms that hold the yokes and hub ? Either way since i have never done these before I am anticipating them being reluctant to come out.

I can say I never had a really bad problem getting ball joints out. I use a chisel and hammer

They allow 2nd Gens around Vail? Isn't that prohibited by city ordinance?? I remember racing my mtn bike there in the mid '90s....the police force drove Saabs -- I'll never forget that, hilarious IMO
