Default need help !!! Rotted Frame looking for advice

Thanks for the add,
I have a 96 ram 3500 dually 12v 4x4 auto it's currently in the shop and the shop informed me that I should seek another frame. My question is if I can't find another 3500 frame I'm told I could possibly use a 2500 gasser or if I'm desperate a 1500 they are all the same..How true is this need help asap.

I think the heavier duty frames have additional reinforcement... but, can't swear to that.....

Post in the 2nd gen ram section. Someone there should be able to help you out.

All the frames are the same. 2500/3500 are identical. The only thing about the 1500 frame is the leaf spring mounting brackets have a different bolt pattern and the frame is slightly thinner (1/16 measuring my 3500 and 1500 frame) but that could be due to rust.

Is the frame really that rotted? It would be helpful to see photos. In many cases, they can be repaired by cutting out the rotted areas and welding in new metal. I've had that done on a few places on my '96 Ram 2500 4x4.

I've wondered about this too, it seems to me the frames are different/not as tall above the rear axle on 1500s?

I was only quickly comparing the rear rails from our '02 2500 CTD to our '98 1500. On the 2500 it seemed like there was no room --er, much less room -- for a u-bolt flip (and resulting spring plate) than on the 1500.

I'll be around the 2500 again later today and I'll take a closer look.

I feel your pain, OP - I service a '00 1500 that spent just some of it's life in PA and the frame has some rust that is bad by Colorado standards....although I don't feel it's structurally compromised at this point
