Default RE: "DEATH FLASH"

The deathflash was a quick fix for the pinging problem in 2nd gen rams. The main cause for the pinging was actualy a blown plenum gasket so dc decided to take the cheap way out and retard the timimg instead of fixing the actual problem. The easiest way to undue the deathflash is to use a programmer such as hypertec or superchips which advances the timing, but there are other cheaper ways to do it. I am taking a different approach even though I already have a programmer. In The next few weeks I will be replacing my timing chain because I am over 247,000 miles on my truck and say the pictures that steve posted. When I bought my timing chain I made sure I bought one that will allow me to advance the timing aswell. Another trick to advance the timing to counter act the death flash is to remove the crank sensor, slot the holes, then move it towards the driver side and tighten it back down. I decided against that because the crank sensor is so hard to get to.

I hope this helps everybody to understand the death flash a little better if not I'm sure there is someone out there that can explain it better than me.

magic has it down pretty good... them are your options... and if you program its a good idea to do the gasket fix!!!
