96 1500 5.2 no start....completely stumped

I hate to admit this but my old neighbor came over basically said cut the cat off bet its plugged up tight....sure enough that was the problem. But it's just crazy there were literally no symptoms of a plugged cat. It just shut off all at once...the more you know I guess
