Is it both sides? Or just one side?

I would be looking at the surface of the axle where the seal rides. Even a minor imperfection can rip a seal apart. Also, be sure they are well lubricated before sticking the axle in there. If they are dry, they will start leaking in the first mile..... Use GOOD quality seals...... Changing them fellers is not a minor undertaking.

Ok, if only right side and you're getting a noise, how is the bearing or bushing that supports the intermediate shaft right there?

If that were bad it'd cause a noise, and if it allows slop it would wallow out that seal pretty quickly.

Yeah, I think there is a bushing, or some such, on a nipple, that holds the outer axle section in line with the intermediate shaft. If that is worn, it'll munch up the seal pretty quick.

It's not the nipple on the shaft, it's pressed into the housing on the left of the CAD cavity while the seal is on the right of the CAD cavity.

I'd think '01 would be a bushing and it's unlikely it's bad, BUT the symptoms of 1)noise and 2) leaking warrant consideration of this bushing (or bearing)

Also, I suppose that shaft nipple could be worn, and that would also ovalize a seal in short order....

Tire balance shouldn't affect the seals.
