Shift kit
So my trucks getting up there in age and with almost 200k on the original trans (not planning on replacing anytime soon… hopefully) that shifts well through all the gears from what I can tell. I would like to do a transgo shift kit to firm up shifts as well as hopefully extent the life of the trans. Is it worth going with the full reprogramming kit, shifter ball detent repair, and throttle valve repair all from transgo. Or is the reprogramming kit not going to have any benefit over the their jr valve body repair kit with a stock engine. Sorry I don’t have any experience on shift kits but not afraid of tackling it, just don’t wanna buy the wrong thing and regret it. And if there’s anything I need to replace/adjust while I’m in there that would be great. Truck is a 1997 Ram 1500 5.2L 4x4 with auto trans. I would also like to do light to moderate towing with the truck.

I think most of the kits on the electronically controlled transmission just raise pressures and such, giving you firmer/crisper shifts, not so much altering shift points that much. That's all pretty much controlled by the PCM. (and modified by the TV cable) Not sure you would need the 'repair' kits, if your trans is still working properly. One thing that the kits will do for you also, is to allow the torque converter to charge with the trans in park. That means you can check your fluid in park, and it reduces the delay in engagement at cold start. Sonax makes a similar kit, but, I really don't think there is much difference between them.
