Default Does PCM receive data for fuel level?

Hi, trying to plan for future gauges on custom project. Would like to receive fuel level from app such as Torque. Does the 2nd gen PCM (1997) know the fuel level or does the gauge on cluster independently receive from the tank sending unit? Thank you.

PCM doesn't get that info until 98.

Not exactly true, Prior years do read the level but only to turn on the "low fuel" light.

It just monitors the voltage coming back from the sender, When it gets to a certain point it turns on the idiot light(low fuel).

Believe it or not, very helpful detail. I might be able to use at least a warning light.
