5.9l Block Interchangeability
So I am looking to buy a used 5.9l to build. I found one with low miles from a 2001 2500 with the 46re. I also have the 46re so I am sure it would work. Just want to be sure though. It would work for my truck correct? I have a 00 1500 with the 46re.
Well apparently I looked at my casting number and one of PO may have swapped a 318. The only issue is idk if they also swapped the computer and torque converter so idk how much I would have to undo to swap a 360 back in. Wtf. I guess I wouldn't find out until I dug into it. The last owner is not sure what all they did if it was swapped.
It came with a 360. I know that. So I'm not sure if they did the swap with all with the torque converter computer and stuff. I do not feel like they did because if I had the correct computer for the 318 and still only barely got 10 mpg something is severely off. So I'm thinking I still have the 360 computer. The engine will come with a flywheel. So i guess it will depend on the torque converter. Is there a visual way to tell? Also, how easy is it to replace the converter with the engine out?

is a matter of a few bolts and swap in the new one? Not all that familiar with automatics so I can't really picture it very easily.
When pulling the engine out of the truck, you have to unbolt the starter, transmission and flexplate/torque converter bolts. With the engine removed, the transmission is just sitting there with the torque converter in front of the transmission. At that point, you can pull the torque converter out of the transmission and slide another torque converter in its place. You can find an engine removal video on YouTube to better show/describe the process.
