You can add a cabin air filter

How did you bleed the system? Any air still trapped and it won't heat up enough.

Once I replaced the heater core, I used one of those spill free funnel kits that attach and seal to the rad. Supposed to get rid of all air once the truck is running for awhile and once the thermostat opens up and all bubbles are gone from the funnel all air is supposed to be gone.
