Default IAC valve

Good morning Gurus, 98 2500 4X4 360. This morning the truck would not idle, let off the gas, it would die right now. Once warmed up it stays running, but at a lower RPM than normal. Also, sometimes it cuts out when you jump on it. My mechanic said it was probably the IAC sticking. My question is, would that valve cause the missing under load?

Is it missing or just dying?
The IAC can cause rough idle, slow starts, and dying at a stop. It doesn't affect normal running. How's the cat?

Default Iac

When you accelerate quickly sometimes it will act like it's out of fuel, and I need to pump it a few times and it evens out. Like it wants to fall on it's face for a sec, but if you feather it a bit, it stays running. As far as I know, the cat is ok, no obstruction in the tail pipe

Sounds like you definitely have an IAC issue with your truck dying at idle, but sounds more like a tune-up related issue for the other issue you mentioned. I'd suggest addressing the IAC issue (plenty of YouTube videos available on fixing this problem) and while you're at it, clean-up the throttle body and check the air filter, too.

Thanks, I'll do that. I did recently tune it up, so that part is done.

Somewhere in the DIY section I did a write-up on the IAC/throttle body cleaning years ago.

You may want to see what the fuel pressure is both at idle and under load.
