Default Cam installation

I was considering a camshaft swap in my 5.2 engine. According to my mechanic, the factory manual says "step 1-pull motor". I could have sworn that I saw pics somewhere of someone doing this after just removing the top end and fan/shroud/radiator. Does the block have to come out for a camshaft swap????

Thanks. I thought so, I know I've seen that done. Do the heads have to come off also?

I thought I could have that done with the new intake installation. Maybe time to find a new mechanic. Anyone know a good one in Round Rock, TX or Austin, TX area???
