Default 97 dodge ram 1500 5.9L STALLS

I have a 97 dodge ram 1500 sport edition. At times when I'm reversing and go into drive it'll shut off or act like it wants to quit. Does this vise versa as well. I did notice during this winter while using 4wheel drive it tends to stall more often when going from drive to reverse or vise versa. Any info helps

If one hasn't been done in a while, sounds like it might be time for a good tune-up (clean the throttle body (especially around the idle air controller), change plugs, cap, rotor and air filter. What maintenance has been done to the truck lately? Any codes pop up when using a scanner?

No codes pop up, however I am about to do a tune up as you mentioned. When I bought the truck (fairly recently) I did an oil change,, Trans filter and fluid, differential fluid and gaskets, just got the parts for the tune up so hopefully that'll clear it up

Sounds like basic maintenance is needed. Also, might want to check the intake plenum floor for oil pooling that can be caused by a bad plenum gasket, which is very common on V8 and V6 magnum motors. The throttle body idle air controller may be causing the bulk of your issues. Here is a video that walks thru the throttle body and idle air controller cleaning.

My 96 would do this quite often, yearly cleaning of the IAC seemed to remedy the situation. Probably should've just tried replacing it but, 100$ (at the time) vs half hour and a shot of brake clean

Since you mention 4x4, does the 4x4 work? second thought would be a major vacuum leak in the 4x4 system, but im not sure those little hose could leak enough to cause a stall situation lol
