Default Windshield wiper issues

Well in my mad rush to work early this morning in the 12 degree weather, my windshield wipers refused to work. Tried using the wiper fluid. The fluid would spray but the wipers did not move. Makes me think it's not the switch. Fuse looked good but I didn't get the time to pull it out. Are there relays somewhere? Grounds? Seems odd they would randomly stop on the coldest day of the year so far. Any help? Could he the motors. Is there only 1 motor or 1 for each wiper?

Ok, looks like the switch provides power directly to the motor for high and low, and the central timer module controls intermittent, and the few wipes you get if you just push the washer button.

Of course, the washer gets its power from the same place as the wipers, so, if the washers work, the fuse is good.

Can you hear the motor run in any of the settings? Wipers aren't just frozen to the windshield are they??

my initial thought was they were frozen. But they were not. I went and made sure. Are you saying the switch probably isn't bad? Could there be a bad relay somewhere? I haven't had time to test much yet but I didn't didn't hear anything when I tried to use them.

I think the relay is only used on the intermittent settings, or for the couple swipes when you hit the washer button.

You can check for power on the high and low circuits, see if you are getting power TO the motor with the switch on.

ok I may start with swapping that relay with a similar one I know works and see what that does. How do I go about testing if they have power? Remove the cowl and test for power at the plug? Also, is there only 1 wiper motor?

well went on lunch and they work again. I'm thinking either the cold froze the motor until it warmed outside or.... idk. Must have been the cold though

I am sure the cold had something to do with it. I don't like working in the cold either.
