5.7 Hemi in a 99 Ram 4x4
#12
Fit well problem is programming it. I had a shop do that.
Mine I decided to do a Hellcat halfway through but I have a video of it running with a 5.7L Hemi. Honestly there are a lot of variables. Easiest way would be get a pre made harness ($3500 with Hemi pedal, and PCM). I am going to do a write up this summer once I get the few bugs worked out. I built my own harness though. Overall not for everybody.

Doing a hemi swap into the 2nd gen ram would be easier with a junker 3rd/4th gen, but isn't necessary. You can grab a earlier 5.7 hemi 03-08 pretty cheap these days at your favorite u-pick hole. The 46re can be built up (using 47/48re parts) to handle any power that the hemi can dish out, probably better at handling the big power than the 545rfe. I was going to run a fast efi controller/msd ignition (run a drive by cable set-up), as I already own the stuff. If you go the junker route, you might end up needing the complete wiring harness/dash to make stuff work right.

this should be the last question, driveshafts both front and rear, do I need custom ones or will the factory ones work

Also interested and following. I debated this route with my 98 as i found a completed 5.7/545 on craiglists with wiring and computers cheap earlier this year, but after some short googling I kinda decided against it. I have to much sunk in the 5.2 to change directions but maybe in the future.
course if the rumors are true i see hemi prices sky rocketing more in a couple years.....

thank you so much for the information, I expected to need a tune because I’m planning on using a Holley EFI system
