Still can’t wrap my head around how it’s overheating
It may be something really simple, kinked line, or the flow restricted for some other reason. Or, it may be that the cooler you have just ain't enough to keep up with the heat the trans generates. See if the PCM is even reporting the correct temp, and go from there.
Keep in mind, the temp sensor is AFTER the governor pressure solenoid in the fluid circuit....... So, I would expect that the trans will report a higher temp than what you see coming out of the cooler, or going into it for that matter. Shooting the line right where it exits the trans would likely give you the closest reading to what the PCM *should* report..... But, that's not really a convenient spot either.
