Default Resistance of New Spark Plugs?

I have a new set of plugs lying around, waiting to be installed. But should they be? I’m probably gonna be spanked for this, but I’d rather not name the brand and type. That’s another discussion.

I’ve measured the resistance of each plug. Five of them were around 4.4k ohms, if memory serves me. :-) Two were near 5.3k ohms. But one came in at 6.1k ohms, a full 1,700 more than half the set. This concerns me a bit, or is it something that won’t be an issue?

(the font looks extremely small. I tried all the usual “suspects” but never found SIZE?)

Looking around the Interwebs values are all over the place. Some say under 5k, others up to 8k. It depends on the make, did you try to look up what the manufacturer states ? For something that isn't exactly a high compression race engine it likely doesn't matter.

Regardless, plugs should be replaced every 30k or so on these engines. I've done probably 10 sets over 21 years.

The resistance is there for radio frequency interference (RFI). If they where used plugs with a lot of resistance it's time for new ones.

Thanks to all. Seems like at least there’s no “scary, bad” news thus far. ;-) I’ll look into the manufacturer’s info,… not found on Amazon btw.
