Default 94 1500 4spd auto starts in 2nd

I own a 1994 dodge ram 1500 5.2L paired to a 46rh transmission. When put into drive the truck starts in 2nd and won't shift up or down automatically. Reverse, neutral, and everything else works. But the only forward gear I can access is 1st or 2nd and I have to manually put it into first. Guy before me told me it was a solenoid but the 46rh doesn't run solenoids. I've checked trans fluid and it still looks almost brand new. No metal shavings I can see. Could it just be the governor? If so where can I find one?

Is it consistent ? Every time no first gear?

mine does this on occasion granted I have a 46re…but when mine does this, I turn it off and back on and it’s fixed…..I have a stored p0500 for speed sensor, that is shown when doing key dance but no check engine light is on…

If you have a 46RH transmission. It more likely the Governor valves hanging up. You need to remove the overdrive unit from the transmission just to get to the Governor.

It starts and runs in 2nd everytime. Unless I manually stick it Into first. But still goes back to 2nd when put into drive.

Before you tear off overdrive unit, try doing the tv cable adjustment and band adjustment….easy to do and free, that’s where I would start
