The GREEN MACHINE Upgrade/Restorage Project
Hello and greetings from Hutto Texas.
I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500, 4x4, Ext Cab, 5.9L Magnum V8, tow package. This vehicle has approximately 65,000 total miles on it. It has been kept in a barn since November 2011. The engine has not been turned over since it was parked.
So I've decided to take the truck apart and then reassemble the truck with all new upgraded parts and modifications.
I started with the front suspension, stabilization and stirring. I dropped the front axle and disassemble the entire frontend suspension, stirring stabilization & control parts and chucked all that junk. Starting over with all new parts and any stirring stabilization upgrades that are now available. The truck has never been lifted or had a leveling kit applied to it. So I was going to add a suspension lift at the same time that I plan do the installation of the Ram DEATH WOBBLE kit. Probably going to replace the stirring gearbox with an upgraded one as well. I've had nothing but problems with the death wobble issue ever since I purchased the truck new at a dealership in Columbus Ohio.
So if anyone has experience with any of the things... Please climb on board.
I'm also trying to order all of the engine rebuild parts and modification parts. Like I mentioned before, this RAM is getting the full treatment.
I'm replacing the kegger intake manifold with the HUGHES HUG-5409 FI AIRGAP KIT, HIP-FR3 BILLET FUEL RAILS, HIP-FRF3R FUEL RAIL KIT, AND THE HUGHES HUG-5504 "BIG GLUP" 1007CFM THROTTLE BODY.
My Ram is also getting a new set of long tube headers, finding the right pair has been extremely difficult. The only ones I can find say they're for 94-97 RAM 1500 2/4WD.... It doesn't say these will fit the 2500 4WD.... so I'll buy them and see what it'll take to get them installed. The engine and transmission are both coming out of the truck and going on the engine rebuild stand and transmission shop .
I'm also planning a stroker kit and new crank. Then I'm going to install some True Flow over sized heads and pistons and put in a better cam..
So, THIS is my plan.... I've got the place to to the work. I've got the money for ALL the parts and modifications... I just don't have time time. Usually I get one day off a week to wrench on my projects.
Anyone interested on giving advice involving your personal experience with any of the points I mentioned is welcome to share their thoughts here...
Best wishes!
Tom

I had the issue with death wobble when I purchased the truck from the original owner several years ago. Thought it was going to get me killed while driving down the highway at speed. I ended up replacing all of the front end parts (including the wheel bearings and front U-joints) and upgraded the track bar to a 3rd gen style adjustable track bar from these folks - http://www.solidsteel.biz/trackbars.htm - I also installed a kit to try to stabilize the output shaft of the replacement Borgeson steering gearbox I purchased to help make it last longer. I no longer have any issue with death wobble.
As for the Hughes Big Gulp throttle body, I recently installed it and it works well. My motor is pretty much stock (with the exception of the 8 quart oil pan, double roller timing chain/gears, 4.10 gears front+rear, 33" tires, coated shorty JBA headers and 3" exhaust/muffler from the converter on back - 46RE transmission recently rebuilt and beefed up with a shift kit/added clutches, deep pan, etc.).

I also had the death wobble but it was caused by a worn tie rod on the pitman arm. The worn out steering damper didn't help either.
You mean Trick Flow don't you? From what i see they fit both the LA and magnum and have the LA style bolt pattern. This will be a problem trying to bolt on magnum parts to it. IE: the Hughes HUG-5409
