Default Dana 60 pattern help?

This is my first time setting up a differential. All new bearings, same used gears. I’m installing a Yukon duragrip. Backlash is about .007 to .008 and I’m using setup bearings the same brand as the new ones. Pinion depth was not changed. If anyone has experience with this, how’s the pattern looking?

Man that's tough...I can't tell conclusively from the pics. It's almost as if you're encompassing the entire tooth from root to crown.

Are you applying drag to the ring gear while spinning the pinion?

Are you cutting the compound with gear oil? It almost looks too thin, or too pale (might just be the camera). Basically, it'd be nice to have a little more contrast

Sometimes it's easier to go off where the pinion leaves compound on the gears you didn't initially paint...or at least use this in conjunction with the pattern on the painted ones to get a better mental picture of what's going on.

Sorry not more help, I'm not comfortable giving advice based on the pics.

Also, what is max backlash spec?

Seems like it's closer to the toe(inner part of the gear).

yes sorry about the pictures. It’s easier to see in person. Where the paint is wiped off it looks like that’s where the gear was wearing it’s entire life honestly. And since you said something I was looking at where the paint went also and it looks to be right where it should be. The max spec is .01 for backlash. These pictures are kind of bad I wish they were better but at least to me they actually look pretty good

Yeah I still just can't tell. If that's the best you can get, I guess run it. Some gear sets just wind up with funky patterns that aren't necessarily "bad" but just appear less-than-ideal

Obviously, I'd definitely run the pattern again once you get those setup bearings out and press-fit bearings installed
