Help…need a transmission fill / dipstick tube
We just finished replacing the transmission in 98 1500, the last thing to connect is the fill / dipstick tube. Couldn’t figure out why wasn’t lining up with bolt hole, the tapered end that fits in the grommet in the transmission is gone. Looking at the tube seems previous owner used some sort of sealant to hold it to the transmission.
I can’t find this part anywhere, any recommendations?

You should be able to find the part number for your dipstick tube by calling a local Dodge dealer or downloading the parts manual for your year truck here - https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...s-manuals.html
Once you have the part number, you can search for it via Google to find it. I went through the same issue not long ago. Luckily, I had a spare transmission dipstick tube from another 46RE transmission core I had laying around, as my original older style dipstick tube had a few rust holes in it. I believe that year uses a dipstick tube and rubber seal that resembles a Chevy 700R4 transmission. The newer seal is much better than the older O-ring style seal that fit into a groove on the older style dipstick tube.
Here is an example of the later model dipstick tube seal - https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...5113/5707463-p

Thank you!
I’ll have to call a dealer, for some reason looking up that part number the search results add an AC or AD to the end of it. And when looking for fitment it only goes back to 2001 trucks.
Also looking at the tube I have, maybe it does have a groove in it for an o-ring. I’ll need to get this stuff off the end and see if it will fit better all cleaned up. The new tranny came with that grommet and I couldn’t figure why it wouldn’t work, the pictures I found online seemed to show a tapered end.

The dipstick with the tapered end is the later model dipstick tube that uses this type of seal - https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...5113/5707463-p The early model dipstick tube has a groove in it for an O-ring type seal. I prefer using the later model style dipstick tube and seal, as I feel it works better and is less prone to leaks over time.
