Default Iac

So on my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 3.9L I was trying to fix my timing in the distributor, because I'm idle was off. Than I proceed to take the throttle body apart like the TPS, MAP, and the IAC. Too clean them and inspect them, but when I was cleaning the IAC I notice it started to spin inward and when I placed it back in and started to play with the distributor again I wouldn't adjust the idle high or low when you move it rice or lean. Once I decided just test drive little was ran goo than the engine shut off on me haha!. I tried starting it again but just cranks but good crank on the engine just no fuel. Did I happen to mess up the IAC adjustment? Can that be adjusted to the proper spot or would I have to just replace now haha.

Moving the distributor doesn't change ignition timing, that is purely controlled by the PCM, via the crank sensor. Moving the distributor changes fuel sync. (injector timing)

You likely need to reset the pcm, and have it re-learn zero values for the various sensors. Just disconnect the battery, turn on the headlights, turn them back off, hook the battery back up, turn ignition to On, (not start) count to 10, (don't touch anything....) then start the truck. It should figure out idle fairly quickly. If it doesn't, may have roached the IAC.

What do you mean roached the IAC? It's supposed to adjust on its own right?

Yep, its a stepper motor, turning the motor moves the pintle in/out. But, if the pintle can spin with the motor, it won't move, and the PCM can't control idle. Supposedly, when you first turn the ignition on, the IAC should close all the way, then partially open, for a high idle. You can watch it do that, if you have two people. If it actually moves, then its probably good. If it doesn't move, then... it ain't.

can I take the IAC out of the throttle see if it turns or does it have too be in the throttle body to turn and operate correctly

Well, problem with that is, with the IAC out, when you turn the key on, it will try and run the pintle out, and then the spring takes over, and launches it, never to be seen again. Ask me how I know.

So I replaced the IAC and still got crank no start. I also found this right next to my #6 spark plug just laying in there next too it and cause a little spark after that the truck won't start just crank. This was all before I replaced the IAC. I checked the fuse box and didn't see anything wrong. I have no clue where that needle pin came from and the chances of it falling right in between the spark plugs wire.

I have no idea what that is..... Certainly haven't seen anything like that on my truck. No clue where it came from.

Will the truck start if you crack the throttle open a bit?

So I found my problem. So I guess my gas gauge became inaccurate now lol 😆. Never use to be like that, but I guess it happens though off about an 1/8th. Well I started thinking and so I decided get starter fluid and started up for bit than stated thinking more and asked myself maybe I'm out of gas added 2 gallons sure enough started right up haha!
