Howdy y’all. Im swapping the dash on my 1 owner 96 1500 4x4 Sport. Under the dash is a doohickey that I can’t identify. Its about the size of a small plum and is full of what appears to be copper wire. It plugs into a junction and goes into the main wire loom. It also has what I think is a relay on one end.



The replacement dash (which I paid waaaay to much for) doesn’t have it anywhere. I’m posting pics. Hopefully someone can help!!

Its a transformer. (no, it doesn't turn into a Camaro......) I *think* it is used as a choke on the radio power circuit, but, can't swear to that.

 

Any idea why 1 truck has it and the other doesn’t? Premium sound system or something?

 

Could be. Does the one that has it, have the infinity sound system?

 

Yup it's a choke and it's used to keep electric noise out of the radio. It only came with the premium sound system.
